Halifax Food Truck Party- July Edition

Last month's food truck party was so awesome but by the time we showed up most of the trucks were sold out! This time I had a plan....

KEYS TO A SUCCESSFUL FOOD TRUCK PARTY:

1. Get there early- I wanted to get there right when it started but we got there about 30 minutes after it opened. Some of the lines were still crazy and we missed out on a couple things we wanted but most trucks weren't too bad. About a 10-15 minute wait. Last time we waited an hour for fish tacos and they were still worth it! I'm sure if we stayed the whole time we would have gotten to try everything but we were so full after an hour we just couldn't do it!

2. Make a plan- I'm a total weirdo and stalked their facebook page to see what trucks would be there. I then went to each trucks page and checked out their menus to figure out what I wanted ahead of time. By the time I got there I had it all figured out!

3. Divide and conquer- This is the best tip! It will save you a lot of waiting and you'll get a great variety. Go with a few friends and each take a line. Buy a few things for each other and meet up and share your goodies!

4. Bring cash- Some of the trucks take debit/credit but I think most only take cash. Plus it's so much easier and quicker for everyone!

5. Don't bring any big or heavy items- And if you do, make it a stroller! I stocked up on food! Lol everyone was teasing me because I had a huge stash in the bottom of Carter's stroller! I'm actually enjoying some delicious leftovers while writing this post! I'm so glad for the stroller and that I don't have to carry a huge heavy purse all over the place! Plus trying to juggle food and drinks gets a bit challenging and messy!

6. Have a good time- Don't bitch and complain the whole time you're there about long lines, crowds, and waiting. It's a pretty popular thing and gets really busy! If you don't have patience, stay home!

This event was so much fun and I really love that it's also dog friendly! Many of the vendors were out offering people bowls of water for their dogs and there was even a little doggie booth with some treats for them!

A huge thank you to The Coast for putting these parties together and to the truck vendors for all of their hard work and delicious treats! It's really hard to get to some of these trucks on their regular schedules so getting my fix once a month at these parties keeps me happy and satisfied lol!

Did you make it to the Halifax Food Truck Party? What was your favorite thing? If you couldn't make it be sure to check them out next month in Dartmouth at Kings Wharf! Here's their Facebook page for more info.

Carter's ready to try it all!

This is my favorite truck "Taco Stiles" and my first stop! Their fish tacos are to die for and so are the Taco fries...Omg so damn good!

One of our favorites "Ol' School Doughnuts", we go see them all the time! Try the Boston Cream and the maple bacon! Incredible! Their line was huge!

"Kitchen Door Catering Company" Mac N Cheese. The Chicken fiesta was the best! Those little nacho chips were crunchy goodness!
  My man's on a mission!

 Mmmm Taco Fries....Heaven!
"Lemon Dogs Lemonade" The cucumber was my favorite, and the strawberry cherry was pretty good too! I didn't really like the Strawberry & Bitters as much as I thought I would but it was still good.

"Morris East" Wood fired s'mores....Oooey Goooey Goodness!

Halifax Food Truck Party

Man, who doesn't freakin love food trucks?! Seriously, anytime I see a food truck I NEED to go and get something. When a friend posted on facebook about this party tonight, we just had to go!

It was mayhem! The lines were insane. A few spots weren't too bad but we waited in line for tacos for an hour. Oh my god. They were so worth it! My fish taco had some pineapple sauce, it was so amazingly delicious.....man I want another one soooo bad!

We had the best damn grilled cheese, delicious gourmet mac and cheese (they had pulled pork, brisket, and traditional), and some waffles on a stick, yummm.

We showed up an hour before they closed so a lot of the trucks were sold out. We missed out on some really good ones unfortunately but at least we can check their usual schedule and go try them!

(Sorry for the blurry pic but this was the greatest fish taco ever!)

Sunday Brunch

I love brunch! Honestly, who doesn't enjoy an excuse to have a mimosa with breakfast?! I really wanted to get dolled up and go enjoy a nice brunch with our friends. Looks like it's going to be our new Sunday ritual!
I don't usually wear jumpsuits but I seen this one while literally running in to Marshalls to grab something, I just grabbed it off a rack. Didn't even try it on but I think it fits pretty good! I just love it! The fabric is so soft and comfortable. And the pattern is great!

Outfit Of The Day: Jumpsuit- Sans Souci
                                Bag- Chanel Grand Shopping Tote
                                Shoes- Valentino Rockstuds
                                Hat- Ebay

We decided to try a restaurant called Tempo. We've never been there before but I heard the food was amazing, the pictures on their website are incredible!

Of course we were late. Carter's been so cranky lately and I can't put him down longer than 5 minutes before he loses it! It's impossible to get anything done. There really isn't anything I hate more than being late.I felt really bad that our friends were there waiting for us, but good thing they're understanding! And of course Carter loves seeing his auntie and uncle!

My mimosa was heavenly and the food was amazing! I had the croque madame and Kyle had fish tacos. I can't get over how delicious the fish tacos were!!!That was our first time trying them, definitely not the last! I already want to go back just for those tacos! The portions were pretty big too and the price wasn't bad for the quality and amount of food you get.

I was too busy not paying attention and didn't read that my side salad came with candied pecans (I'm allergic to nuts. Not deathly though, or I would be more careful). I took a bite before realizing what they were but it was a small bite so no reaction! I wish I could eat them because they were actually soooo delicious!

Carter was pretty good at brunch, he really only got a little grumpy towards the end but daddy fed him and he was happy again.

We ran some errands and got some bubble tea (our fave!), now it's time to play before bath and bedtime! Hope everyone enjoyed their Sunday!

Food Friday

You know how people have "cheat day"? Well mine is the opposite, I have "healthy day". I am definitely not into fitness and I have not worked out since last summer when I was pregnant (if swimming/lounging in our pool even counts). I'm addicted to a daily tea with cream and sugar, my weekly cream horn, macarons, donuts, let's just say absolutely anything "unhealthy"!

I really want to get to healthier and in shape, and lose the rest of my "pregnancy" weight. I told myself at 6 months postpartum that I would start really trying by exercising and eating well. It's almost  6 months now so I figure I might as well start.

I have recently cut out my daily (sometimes 2 a day) cans of Coke/Dr.Pepper and switched to Perrier. And now that it is finally getting warmer out, Carter and I have been going for walks.

Hopefully, by putting this on here I will hold myself more accountable and actually follow through!

So, I guess I'll start with "Food Friday" and what I ate today!

Breakfast: One of my favorites, avocado scrambled eggs. I also had a piece of raisin toast with coconut oil and some strawberries.

Snack: Some strawberry yogurt and a handful of almonds

Lunch: Chicken taco lettuce wraps. Omg, these are actually amazing!

Snack: Cucumber with lemon/dill tuna

Dinner: Spaghetti squash lasagna. So damn good! I actually really love spaghetti squash now. I hated it the first time I tried to make it!

Snack: My daily tea and a french macaron (bad, I know)

Homemade Baby Food

I have been looking forward to this day since I was pregnant lol! I've been so excited to be able to make Carter homemade baby food.

A few weeks ago at his monthly visit our Dr. recommended we start feeding him vegetable purees since he still isn't gaining enough weight (along with breastfeeding of course, I have no plans giving that up). I was hoping to wait until he was at least 6 months but the Dr. said it wasn't a problem starting a month early.  We went and bought the baby bullet steamer that evening! You could steam without the baby bullet steamer but I'm a sucker for cute baby products! I mean just look at this thing!

I decided his first food would be carrots. They were so easy! I just cut them up into "baby carrots" sized pieces and threw them on the steamer for the recommended time (13 minutes). After they cooled I put them in my blender with some breast milk. You can also use formula or water. I always boil my water first if that's what I'm using to mix with. You can add more/less depending on your desired consistency.

I learned on Pinterest about pouring the puree into an ice cube tray and freezing for convenience. You just pop out a couple and microwave! It's so easy!

Carter didn't seem to really love or hate the carrots. Just indifferent. But a few days later when I made him Avocado...well that was pure love! He just wanted more and more! I made sure to try the same food for a few days before introducing a new type in case of any allergies.

Tonight I made him some sweet potato and some squash. The squash ended up being a bit more like squash soup, I put in a bit too much milk. I didn't steam the squash because I wasn't really sure how to do it so I just cut it in half, threw it in the oven for 30 minutes (rotating the tray halfway through) and blended once cooled.

We're having tons of fun trying all these new veggies, I can't wait to start mixing and coming up with some recipes!

Feel free to leave me some tips, comments, or recipes. We would love some ideas!
